Founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa, El Coto has grown to become one of the most renowned producers in the Rioja region. The first bottling of El Coto wine was released in 1975. Today, the estate boasts over 700 hectares of vineyards across Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja, and Rioja Alavesa. Known for its commitment to quality, El Coto is a leading brand in Rioja and a top-seller in European markets.
Vineyard and Winery:
El Coto Rioja Blanco is crafted from Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Rioja Oriental, situated over 840 meters above sea level. The Viura grapes are mainly sourced from Rioja Alta, where the limestone and clay soils contribute to the wine's structure and complexity. The high-altitude vineyards benefit from warm days and cool nights, which allows for slow, balanced ripening.
The grapes are chilled upon arrival at the winery and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 14 to 18ºC for 12 to 20 days, preserving the bright varietal aromas and freshness. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation or oak ageing to maintain its crisp and vibrant profile.
